Trend American flag ini sudah di mulai dari tahun 1960-an. Awalnya dianggap melanggar undang-undang dari Amerika karena bendera tidak boleh digunakan sebagai bagian dari kostum maupun pakaian. Kecuali digunakan pada seragam personil militer, pemadam kebakaran, petugas polisi, dan anggota organisasi patriotik.

Tapi seiring berjalannya waktu, peraturan undang-undang tersebut mulai diabaikan. Sebaliknya, memakai atribut bernuansa bendera Amerika Serikat diaanggap sebagai simbol nasionalisme dan kebanggaan warga Amerika.

Para selebriti kjuga ikut mempopulerkan tren ini. Seperti Ke$ha, Katy Perry, dan Miley Cyrus. Kita juga bisa banget mengikuti tren ini dengan beberapa fashion item seperti crop tee yang lagi musim banget, long tank, dress, accessories, sepatu, tas sampai hairpiece.
